Secure Respect Protect

Anyone know the reason why Pentana have decided to change the root password on servers after all these years?  It may be a plus for some but not for those who had already done the right thing and changed the root password.

Hopefully it has't escaped them that their policy to prevent unauthorised access and respect customer's data  involved them getting onto the customer's server and changing the root password without getting authorisation from the customer or at the very least notifying them.

Pentana could have implemented this better by adhering to their RITCH principles.  Where was the respect, integrity, trust, communication and honesty?  Communication did come, but sadly too late in the process.

  • I think it was related to Vital Software cancelling support for Pentana integration. There were a couple of bulletins around this, see attached
